Ayurvedic tips for summer

Are you looking forward to the summer months – when pitta is dominant – or are you already feeling stressed about how to handle the potentially extreme summer heat? Relax... in this blog post, you'll find valuable tips for getting through the summer!

  1. Routine. "Rise with the sun." Take advantage of the early morning coolness, so don't get up too late. Do important physical activities at this time of day. The same applies in the evening, when the sun has set.
  2. Clothing. Wear airy, thin clothing made of natural materials like cotton, silk, or linen. Light colors also protect against heat. Did you know that light blue is also insect repellent? A hat, visor, headband, or headscarf are perfect for your head.
  3. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun. Protect yourself from direct sunlight and seek shade regularly. The sun's rays are strongest between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Going to the beach or the water? Protect yourself with light clothing and light colors, or regularly apply sunscreen or oil with a UV protection factor. Many products on the market today are 100% natural. Tip! We sell natural sun products from Puréz and LakShmi.
  4. Hydrate sufficiently. Drink plenty of water, coconut water or milk, and herbal teas (mint and chamomile). Your urine should not be dark yellow. Avoid iced drinks as they can disrupt your digestion. Make your own electrolyte drink (a combination of salt and fresh water) to maintain your vitamin and mineral balance as much as possible.
  5. Eat light mealsModerate spicy, sour, and salty flavors. Eat light, not too heavy or oily. Cucumber, melon, mint, and green leafy vegetables (seasonal fruits and vegetables) are refreshing. Herbs with a cooling effect: coriander, fennel, cardamom, mint. Tip! At the end of August, there's a cooking workshop focused on the summer season.
  6. Avoid stressCalm yoga postures and meditation (pranayama) calm your fire.
  7. Explore the woods or go into the mountains. The temperature will certainly be lower in these places and you will also feel a fresh, dry breeze much more than at the water (where it is humid and foggy).
  8. Book Ayurvedic treatment. Choose an abhyanga with coconut oil or sunflower oil, or… try a wonderful scrub with a body wrap. We also have monthly specials focused on cooling during the summer months. Tip! In June and July, the special offer of the month is Enchanting Hammam, a combination of a cooling scrub, Turkish steam bath, massage, and body wrap.
  9. Be prepared. Prepare well for your upcoming trip. Have the essentials on hand? Some fruit, a savory snack, and plenty of water? Good preparation is half the battle!
