Heat, cleansing and a return to calm
The hammam is a ritual that has been used for centuries to cleanse and soothe the body. Within Het Ayurveda Instituut, this ritual is deepened: not only as a treatment, but as a moment of deliberate delay and alignment.
When you step into the room, something changes. The warmth envelops you, sounds fall silent, and your body slowly begins to let go of what it no longer needs to hold on to.
Space is created here.
The experience
You start with a warm foot bath. A simple moment, but essential – it marks the transition from outside to inside.
In the hammam room, you feel the heat building up. The skin opens, breathing deepens, and the body sinks deeper and deeper into relaxation. The treatment unfolds in layers:
- An kese scrub which activates and purifies the skin
- An foaming ritual with warm olive soap, soft and enveloping
- a concluding moment of rest in which the body can integrate
The touch is rhythmic, attentive, and attuned. Not rushed, but guided by experience. Afterwards, your skin feels soft and clean, but above all: your system has calmed down.
The effect on the body
Heat – soothing and relaxation
Muscles relax, connective tissue becomes more supple, and the body releases tension. The continuous warmth invites the nervous system to slow down.
Steam – loosen and clean
Moist heat penetrates deeper than dry heat. It helps to release toxins and supports the body's natural cleansing process.
Kese scrub – activation and renewal
By removing dead skin cells, blood circulation is stimulated and the skin is renewed. This gives a clear and fresh feeling.
Foam ritual – recovery and regulation
After activation, the foam brings calm. The gentle touch helps the body relax further and regulate the nervous system.
More than relaxation
Although the hammam is often seen as a wellness ritual, it has a deeper effect. It supports the body in:
- releasing built-up tension
- improving traffic flow
- restoring balance in the nervous system
From an Ayurvedic perspective, it helps to release ama (accumulated toxins) and prepare the body for further treatment. In this way, the hammam also serves as a wonderful entry point or support for:
- therapeutic treatments
- detox programs
- Panchakarma tracks
Not as a standalone luxury, but as part of a larger whole.
For whom is the hammam suitable
The hammam is suitable if you:
- experiences tension or stress
- are tired
- need cleansing or detoxification
- have trouble slowing down
- want to get back in touch with your body
Also suitable as a first step if you have not experienced a treatment before.
